Benefits of our Education Programmes

The potential educational and wellbeing benefits of Food Forests Ireland's Primary School's education  programme were highlighted in a 2024 journal article entitled "Cultivating Children's Ecological Wellbeing: Introducing Food Forests Ireland (formerly The Edible Landscape Project) ". The article appeared in the The Psychological Society of Ireland's Irish Psychologist Magazine, Vol.50, Issue 4:  (Sept 2024), thanks to the work of Dr Michelle B. Cowley-Cunningham from Dublin City University (DCU), Dr Alexis Carey and Dr Elaine Rogers from the University of Limerick.

In the article, Colm O'Gorman, Professor of Entrepreneurship at DCU Business School commented:

“Food Forests Ireland (formerly The Edible Landscape Project) is an ambitious and forward-thinking education initiative that educates about climate through ‘doing’. It has demonstrated ‘proof of concept’, and the next challenge is for the project to maximise its impact by scaling quickly– ensuring that schools and communities from all across Ireland can get involved.”

Later in 2024, Dublin City University's Professor Theo Lynn and the Irish Institute for Digital Business at DCU Business School created this beautiful video featuring wonderful drawings from primary school children who participated in our Food Forest Schools Programme in Mayo in 2024, illustrating students' growing awareness of systems design within food forests.
